I was just at the bank to deposit some cheques and obtain a deposit form so I can get paid for some work I’m doing. I have a particular type of account with my bank, mostly thanks to the help of my parents (it is technically a joint account). I have what is called a “Premier” account.
Anyways, I had to go to the teller in order to get the deposit form, and I noticed that there were two separate queues. One was longer, and the other shorter. The shorter queue (which was a queue of just me in the end) was for Premier account holders only. Someone else tried to join the queue but realised somehow that he had to go back to the other one. It was interesting how the space excluded him, even though I didn’t say anything (I did have my fancy black debit card out). The “Premier” queue is further distinguished by having its teller at table/desk level rather than the usual standing affair that most banks have. There’s even a fairly comfortable chair to sit at. It gave me the feeling that I was rather well-off (though I’m not…). When I have an account that is actually my own, I learned from dad that I get an ‘introduction card’ so I can give it to the bank to get better service. It’s a bit weird for me, but I suppose it’s rather convenient in the end…
Another interesting point about my bank (other than that whole money-drug-laundering-thing…) is that the “fast cash” amount is defaulted to $100. At all other ATMs I’ve used, it’s $40. Take from that what you will.
